Trial: Prostrate Pigweed
Amaranthus blitoides is a yard weed usually known by the common name: Prostrate Pigweed. It grows in a creeping fashion along the ground on succulent pink stems.
Our food trial on the leaves of this plant proved to be very good. Much of the cluster of leaves put in the tank were devoured by morning. No harmful effects resulted. This is a relative to amaranth or redroot which is also safe for hermit crabs.
