I did a trial with horse chestnuts (the fruits of Aesculus hippocastanum). The crabs were offered a cracked chestnut once per week for the last month, but they never touched it. The nuts always were fresh, I'm going to try and offer chestnuts that are already dried, a week old, or maybe sprouted, if I can get them to germinate.
Edible chestnuts (Castanea sp.) were eaten by my crabs, although not with much enthusiasm.
